Tottori Sand Dunes and Mt. Mitoku: The Tottori Sand Dunes are the largest sand dunes in Japan and are characterized by their beautiful dunes and expansive scenery. Mitokuyama offers a panoramic view of the dunes.
Matsue Castle and Izumo-taisha Shrine: In Shimane Prefecture, a neighboring prefecture near Tottori Prefecture, there are Matsue Castle and Izumo-taisha Shrine. Historical buildings, shrines and temples are attractive.

Tour de Daisen Cycling Route

This cycling route circles Mt. Daisen, a sacred mountain, in the midst of one of the largest beech forests in western Japan. It is also one of the hardest routes in Tottori Prefecture, with steep ups and downs and few refueling points along the way. Those who are not confident in their physical strength or in their ability to control the bike on the steep descents are recommended to start with a partial ride.

This cycling route encircles the Nakaumi area, which is recognized as a wetland of international importance as a habitat for waterfowl and is registered under the Ramsar Convention. Cyclists can enjoy the lakeside scenery of Eshima Ohashi Bridge, famous for its "sticky slope," and Daikonjima Island, the largest peony production area in Japan.

This cycling route runs from Sakaiminato to Kaike Onsen Hot Springs and up to Daisen, the highest mountain in the Chugoku region. In addition to enjoying ocean, village, and mountain cycling all at once, the route is packed with the charms of western Tottori Prefecture, including seafood and yokai from Sakaiminato, Kaike Onsen, one of the San'in region's leading hot springs, and the rich and beautiful nature and history of Daisen, including the Daisenji Temple.

This cycling route takes you from Tottori Station to Tatsumi Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in the Chugoku region. After enjoying the beautiful scenery along the riverside, rich in nature, the gradient gradually gets steeper as you approach Tatsumi Pass, and a section that is perfect for hill lovers awaits you. Beyond the Tatsumi Pass is the Okayama Kagamino traverse route, which leads to Okayama City.

This cycling route allows visitors to enjoy both railroad and cycling at the same time in a rural landscape. The Wakasakura Railway, whose 23 related facilities, including station buildings, turntable, and bridges, have been designated as National Tangible Cultural Properties, runs parallel to the route, and the Yazu Mini SL Museum Yazupoppo, the first mini SL museum in Japan, is located here for visitors to enjoy riding.

This route is easy to drive and offers a variety of scenery, connecting Kurayoshi City, which has the ruins of the abandoned Kurayoshi Line of the former Japanese National Railways (JNR) with its tunnel of cherry blossoms, and Lake Togo (Yurihama Town), where you can enjoy the retro townscape of red tiles and white-walled storehouses, and other spots such as the Wai-Togo Onsen and Yancho Garden Chinese Garden. It is also an ideal route for a round trip from "Tottori-Uminami Road" along the sea to the sightseeing spots in the central part of the prefecture!
